Short Itinerary
- Day 1 – Cusco – Qomercocha Lagoon:
Early pickup (6:00 AM) and 3-hour drive to Tinqui, continue 30 minutes to Pacchanta (hot springs) to meet muleteers and have lunch. 3-hour gentle climb up Pacchanta valley to Qomercocha lagoon camp with views of Ausangate range.
Elevation: 4500m (14,763 ft). Hiking time: 3–4 hrs. Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Accommodations: Camping at Qomercohca Lagoon. - Day 2 – Qomerqocha Lagoon – Yanamayo:
Start ~7:00 AM; 3-hour ascent to Abra Q’ampa (5,100 m), 1-hour descent to Ticllaqocha lagoons for lunch. Continue 2–3 hrs to Yanamayo camp beneath Tres Picos, Colquecruz & Pucapunta.
Elevation: 5,100m (16,732 ft). Hiking time: 6–7 hrs. Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Accommodations: Camping at Yanamayo. - Day 3 – Yanamayo – Condor Pass:
Gradual 2-hour climb to Yanacocha (Black Lagoon) and pass (5,050 m), cross colorful valley with three lagoons and herds of camelids, then another pass (5,100 m); 1 more hour to Condor Pass campsite.
Elevation: 5,050 m (16,404 ft). Hiking time: 6–7 hrs. Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Accommodations: Camping at Condor Pass. - Day 4 – Condor Pass – Source of Sibinacocha Lagoon:
1.5-hour climb to Abra del Cóndor (5,200 m), highest point with views of Vilcanota & Sibinacocha. Continue ~3 hrs over another pass and descend to camp near the lagoon’s turquoise source beneath a glacier; wildlife spotting possible.
Elevation: 5,200 m (17,060 ft). Hiking time: 4–5 hrs. Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Accommodations: Camping at Sibinacocha Lagoon. - Day 5 – Sibinacocha Lagoon – Ccascara Lagoon:
Skirt Sibinacocha ~4 hrs to Yayamari community for lunch with views of rocky peak (5,500 m). Cross pampa with llamas, alpacas, vicuñas toward Abra Ccascana (5,000 m) and descend to Ccascara lagoon camp amid remote peaks Montura & Chumpi.
Elevation: 5,000 m (16,400 ft). Hiking time: 7–8 hrs. Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Accommodations: Camping at Cascara Lagoon. - Day 6 – Ccascana – Phinaya – Cusco:
3.5-hour hike to Phinaya village (church & glacier views en route). Lunch, then private transport back to Cusco (~6:00 PM arrival).
Elevation: 4,600 m (15,091 ft). Hiking time: 3–4 hrs. Meals: Breakfast & lunch.
ITINERARY
DAY 1: CUSCO – QOMERCOCHA LAGOON
Early transfer from your hotel in Cusco with 6:00 am departure. We drive for 3 hours on a new highway to Tinqui a small community, enjoying breathtaking views of the Ausangate mountain.
After an approximate 30 minutes drive, we arrive at Pacchanta, a rural community that has some hot springs. where we can enjoy a good dip overlooking the mountains of Ausangate. At this point we meet our muleteers and horses and then we will enjoy a delicious first lunch.
In the afternoon we will continue our hike for 3 hours through a slight climb up the Pacchanta valley, where we will have the opportunity to observe llamas and alpacas, until we reach the beautiful Qomercocha lagoon where we set up our camp and have dinner. Our campsite will be located in a spectacular place with spectacular views of the snowy mountains of Ausangate, Santa Catalina, Maria Huamantiqlla, Pucapunta and Colquecruz.

DAY 2: QOMERQOCHA LAGOON – YANAMAYO
After breakfast we begin our trek around 7.00 am and continue on towards the first mountain pass of our trek, the Abra Q´ampa at 5100m/16732ft, which we will reach after about 3 hours. And then we will descend for 1 hour towards the Ticllaqocha Lagoons, a beautiful group of little turquoise lagoons next to which we have lunch. In the afternoon we continue our hike for an additional 2-3 hours until we reach Yanamayo where we set our camp in an impressive valley overlooked by the stunning Tres Picos, Colquecruz and Pucapunta peaks.

DAY 3: YANAMAYO – CONDOR PASS
We leave form our camp after breakfast around 7: 00 am and start a gradual climb up for 2 hours toward Yanacocha or “Black Lagoon” its name being due to the dark color of its waters. In this area we can appreciate a soil of volcanic origin, its color turning to dark red and black, as well as moraines, showing the previous presence of glaciers in this region. We will go over Yanacocha mountain pass (5050m/16564ft) to then discover a surprisingly beautiful valley with an explosion of colored mountains, three spectacular lagoons and the presence of Llamas and Alpacas, which we will cross to head towards our next mountain pass (5100m/16728ft). From this point, an additional hour of hike leads us to Condor Pass, our next campsite, located very close to the mountain pass of the same name which will be our challenge for the next day.

DAY 4: CONDOR PASS – SOURCE OF SIBINACOCHA LAGOON
After breakfast, we continue on a gradual climb up the valley that takes us to the mountain pass Abra of Condor (5200m/17056ft) after an approximated 1 ½ hours walk. From the pass, the highest point of our trek, we may not only enjoy spectacular views of the Vilcanota mountain range and the Sibinacocha Lagoon, our next milestone, but also hopefully see wild vicuñas. Immediately, we continue our hike for an additional 3 hours, crossing another mountain pass on the way and then descending into the valley of the Sibinacocha Lagoon’s source. We will camp next to the lagoon and very close from its source, where an impressive glacier stands and nourishes the lake with its turquoise waters that contrast with the dark blue pure color of the lagoon. The lagoon boasts a wide biodiversity, we will most probably be able to spot Andean Coots, “Huallatas” or Andean Geese as well as Andean Ducks from our camp.

DAY 5: SIBINACOCHA LAGOON – CCASCARA LAGOON
Today, we continue in a beautiful landscape, we will walk around the Sibinacohca Lagoon for 4 hours until we reach the Yayamari community where we will have our lunch, from where we will also have a view of an impressive rocky peak overlooking the lagoon (5500m/18040ft). We then continue across a pampa where we will most probably see hundreds of llamas, alpacas and hopefull and Vicuñas, to then follow towards the Abra Ccascana at 5000m/16400 ft, which will lead us to the lagoon of the same name, in which area we will set our last camp. In this remote spot, surrounded by impressive snow-capped peaks such as Montura and Chumpi and inhabited by small rural communities, we may have the chance to see Huallatas or Andean geese and maybe even flamingoes.

DAY 6: CCASCANA – PHINAYA – CUSCO
After our delicious breakfast, we leave Ccascara to walk for 3 ½ hours towards Phinaya. This is a small Andean community with a beautiful little church, Along the path between our camp and the end of the trek we will see majestic landscapes and a glacier that can be seen in the distance of the trail.
Once we arrive at Phinaya, which is the end of the trek, we will have our lunch, and then we will take our private transportation back to Cusco City, we will arrive approximately at 6 pm

Can I Store My Luggage at Your Office?
Of course! During the Ausangate Trek and Sibinacocha, your main luggage can be store at our office or at your hotel, whichever is more convenient for you. Please pack only what you will need for the 6 days trek!
How to Book the Ausangate Trek and Sibinacocha?

SECOND, we require an initial payment equivalent to the indicated percentage of the total agreed amount, per person. You can make you deposit by clicking on the VISA or PAYPAL symbols on our booking page.
What About the Balance?
The customer agrees to make an initial payment equivalent to the indicated percentage of the total agreed amount, to ensure the date of the service. And the remaining payment will be paid immediately before one or two days of the start of the service in cusco. And ( if you want to avoid the high credit card fees in Peru you can pay in cash in US dollars or Peruvian soles) here in cusco there are many ATMs, or you can do it by this same means.
What Is the Weather Like on the Ausangate Trek and Sibinacocha?
The weather is very unpredictable and it’s difficult to foresee. But you will have many different seasons as you pass through the numerous microclimates and will depend on the altitude. With the Ausangate Trek, we highly recommend you bring some very warm clothes and good rain gear in your day backpack. It can be very cold at the high altitudes of this trek.
What About Altitude Sickness on Ausangate Trek and Sibinacocha?
In general if you exercise regularly and spend 3 days in Cusco, or in the Sacred Valley for acclimatization to the altitude, you may be just fine.

Duffel Bag and Small Backpack
The evening before you start your Ausangate trek and Sibinacocha , you will be given a duffle bag to pack your clothes for the next four days. Your weight allowance is up to 8kg/15lbs. By Peruvian law, a duffel bag must not weigh more than 8 kilograms (15lbs). This limit is set to protect the health of the porters and animals.
Is the Trek Difficult, Do I Need to Be Fit?
Yes, it is a challenging trek with most of the trail over 5,200 meters or 17,060 feet. You need to be in good physical condition and used to hiking.
In preparation: try walking 10kms in a day or go to the fitness club in the months leading up to the trek. It is also important to be well acclimatised to the altitude. Try to spend at least 3 days in Cusco (3350m/11,047ft) prior to starting the Ausangate trekking .
What About Toilets on the Ausangate Trek and Sibinacocha?
This has been highly appreciated by most of our clients, especially by our trekkers, who want a private, clean and sanitary toilet! NOMAD IN PERU toilet facilities have an individual tent and a camping toilet with a seat.
What Happens If I Am Unable to Finish the Ausangate Trek and Sibinacocha?
In the unlikely scenario that you are unable to finish the Ausangate trekking due to a health issue, Nomad In Peru will assist you to the nearest town for help with transportation. We always carry oxygen on the trek for any respiratory problems. (Travel insurance required). There are no refunds in the unlikely situation that you are unable to finish the Ausangate trekking .
What Type of Wildlife Can Be Encountered Along the Trek ?
The Ausangate trek has a variety of ecosystems in the Peruvian Andes, from high-altitude puna grasslands to lush valleys and Lagoons. This diverse environment supports a wide range of wildlife such as llamas, alpacas, vicuñas and if you are very lucky you can see the condor along the trek.
Tipping
If you’re happy with the services provided, a tip though not compulsory is appreciated. While it may not be customary in your country, it’s of great significance for the people who will take care of you during the trek.
