ITINERARY
Day 1: City Tour – Temple of the Sun – San Pedro Market – Sacsayhuamán
At 8:00 AM, our tour guide will meet you in the hotel lobby, marking the beginning of our cultural adventure through the heart of Cusco.
We’ll start with a visit to the lively San Pedro Market, one of the city’s most iconic and vibrant local markets. Located just a few blocks from the historic center, San Pedro is a sensory experience—filled with colorful displays of fresh produce, meats, cheeses, herbs, and traditional Andean products. It’s a favorite among both locals and visitors, offering a unique opportunity to discover Peruvian culture through its flavors, textiles, and handcrafted goods. Friendly vendors and the chance to sample authentic Peruvian dishes make this a must-visit destination in Cusco.
Next, we’ll head to the historic Plaza de Armas, the main square of Cusco, where you’ll admire the impressive Cathedral of Cusco—a stunning example of colonial architecture built between the 16th and 17th centuries atop the ruins of an ancient Inca palace.
From there, we’ll walk to Q’oricancha, also known as the Temple of the Sun. This was the most important temple of the Inca Empire, dedicated to the sun god Inti, and once covered in gold. The contrast between its Inca foundations and the Spanish colonial structure built above it tells the story of Cusco’s complex and layered history.
After exploring Q’oricancha, we’ll take a scenic 20-minute drive along Avenida El Sol, leaving the colonial center behind as we ascend to the impressive Inca fortress of Sacsayhuamán. This monumental archaeological site is famous for its massive stone walls, some weighing over 100 tons, perfectly fitted together without mortar. Sacsayhuamán not only demonstrates the incredible engineering skills of the Incas but also offers panoramic views over the city of Cusco.
