- Day 1: Cusco – Capuliyoc – Chikisca: This incredible adventure begins at 5.00am, when the guide will pick you up at the hotel and drive for the next 4 hours in our private van to Capuliyoc (2,850m/9,407ft). Along the way, there are picturesque views of villages, spectacular valleys and snow-capped mountains. Meals: Lunch, Snacks, Tea and Dinner. Accommodation: Camping. Distance: 9kms/5.6mi. Walking Time:3-4 hrs. Difficulty: Easy/Moderate.
- Day 2: Chikisca Camp – Playa – Marampata: After an early breakfast we will walk for approximately 1.5 hour to arrive at Playa Rosalina near the Apurimac River (1500m/4,921ft), where we will cross a typical local bridge and hike through a forest of cactus, agaves, and exotic local fruit trees. Meals: Lunch, Snacks, Tea and Dinner. Accommodation: Camping. Distance: 13kms/8mi. Walking Time: 6 hrs.Difficulty:Difficult.
- Day 3: Marampata – Choquequirao Archaeological Complex – Marampata: After an early breakfast we will walk for approximately 1 hour to arrive at Playa Rosalina near the Apurimac River (1500m/4,921ft), where we will cross a typical local bridge and hike through a forest of cactus, agaves, and exotic local fruit trees. Meals: Lunch, Snacks, Tea and Dinner. Accommodation: Camping. Distance: 2kms/1.24mi. Walking Time: 1.5 hrs. Difficulty: Moderate. Day 4: Marampata – Chikisca – Coca Masana: After breakfast we continue our return trek with a steep descent towards the Apurimac River where Your guide will point out the beautiful flora and fauna you might have missed on your way into the Inca site, and them we will stop in chikiska for our lunch. Meals: Lunch, Snacks, Tea and Dinner. Accommodation: Camping. Distance: 18kms/11mi. Walking Time: 6 – 7 hrs. Difficulty: Difficult.
- Day 5: Coca Masana – Capuliyoc – Cusco: After an early breakfast you’ll get ready to return to Cusco. It’ll be a 3 hours uphill hike until you arrive at the end of the trek where we will take our private transport back towards Cusco. Meals: Breakfast and Lunch. Distance: 6kms/3.7mi. Walking Time: 3-4 hrs. Difficulty: Moderate.
ITINERARY
DAY 1: Cusco – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake – Salkantaypampa – Pampa Japonesa
Your Ancascocha via Salkantay adventure begins early in the morning with a 5:00 AM pickup from your hotel in Cusco. From there, you’ll travel by private vehicle through the scenic Andean countryside, leaving behind the city’s colonial streets as the landscape transforms into rolling valleys, traditional farming communities, and snow-capped mountain vistas. After approximately two hours, you’ll arrive in Mollepata (2,900 m / 9,514 ft.), where you’ll have a brief stop to purchase any last-minute snacks, fresh fruit, or supplies before continuing deeper into the mountains. The journey then follows a picturesque mountain road for another hour to Soraypampa (3,850 m / 12,631 ft.), the starting point of your trek. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your trekking team, including experienced horsemen, pack horses, and support staff who will accompany you throughout the adventure. After a short briefing and final preparations, the hike begins with a gradual ascent toward the stunning Humantay Lake. After approximately one hour of hiking, you’ll reach Humantay Lake (4,200 m / 13,780 ft.), one of the most spectacular natural attractions in the Peruvian Andes. Its striking turquoise waters reflect the surrounding glaciers and the towering slopes of Humantay Mountain, creating an unforgettable setting for photos and quiet appreciation of the landscape. Following time to explore and enjoy the scenery, you’ll descend back to Soraypampa before continuing toward Salkantaypampa (4,100 m / 13,451 ft.). Along the way, expansive alpine meadows provide incredible views of the majestic Apu Salkantay (6,271 m / 20,574 ft.), one of the most sacred and revered mountains in Andean culture. A freshly prepared lunch awaits, served in the heart of the mountains with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. After a well-deserved break, the trek continues along a less-traveled route as you gradually gain elevation through rugged terrain and dramatic high-altitude landscapes. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at Pampa Japonesa Camp (4,610 m / 15,124 ft.), a remote campsite located at the foot of the mighty Salkantay Mountain. Surrounded by towering glaciers and pristine wilderness, this peaceful setting offers the perfect opportunity to relax and take in the grandeur of the Andes. As evening settles over the mountains, enjoy hot beverages and a freshly prepared dinner while your trekking crew ensures your camp is comfortable and ready for the night. DAY 2: Pampa Japonesa – Inca Chiriasca – Millpo

After a hearty breakfast of fresh fruit, eggs, local breads, and other nourishing options, you’ll prepare for one of the most challengingand rewarding days of the entire journey. Today is where the wild beauty of the Salkantay region truly meets the remote landscapes of Ancascocha. It’s a day of high mountain passes, breathtaking scenery, and personal achievement. The altitude will be noticeable, and the climbs will test your endurance, but with your guide setting a comfortable pace and plenty of opportunities to rest, hydrate, and enjoy the surroundings, you’ll steadily make your way through some of the most spectacular terrain in the Andes. The day begins with a gradual but demanding ascent of approximately two hours to the Inca Chiriasca Pass (4,960 m / 16,272 ft.), the highest point of the trek. As you climb through rocky alpine landscapes beneath the towering glaciers of Salkantay, every step brings increasingly dramatic views. Reaching the summit is an unforgettable moment. From the top, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic vistas stretching across the Vilcabamba and Urubamba mountain ranges, where snow-covered peaks rise above the horizon in every direction. Take a moment to celebrate, capture photos, and appreciate the incredible achievement of standing nearly 5,000 meters above sea level. From the pass, the trail follows a remarkable section of original Inca Trail for approximately three hours. By midday, you’ll arrive at Tocto Pass (4,820 m / 15,813 ft.), where a freshly prepared lunch awaits. In the afternoon, the adventure continues across a series of spectacular mountain passes. The trail leads to Calacocha Pass (4,660 m / 15,288 ft.), where crystal-clear alpine lakes mirror the surrounding peaks, before continuing to Cruz Casa Pass (4,620 m / 15,157 ft.). Each ascent and descent reveals new perspectives of the rugged Andean landscape and a growing sense of accomplishment. A final climb brings you to Millpo Pass, where sweeping views open across remote valleys and towering mountains. From here, a gentle descent leads to Millpo Camp (4,390 m / 14,402 ft.), your home for the night. DAY 3: Millpo – Yahuarmaky – Ancascocha

DAY 4: Ancascocha – Silque Valley – Camicancha – Ollantaytambo- Aguas Calientes

From Ollantaytambo, board the scenic train around 4:00 pm to Aguas Calientes. As the train follows the winding Urubamba River through lush cloud forests, the landscape gradually transforms into the subtropical environment that surrounds Machu Picchu. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes (2,040 m / 6,692 ft.), check into your comfortable hotel and enjoy a well-deserved opportunity to relax. Upon arrival at Machu Picchu, you’ll enter the citadel with your guide for a comprehensive tour of one of the world’s most remarkable archaeological sites. Over the course of approximately two to three hours, you’ll explore the most important sectors of the ancient Inca city, including ceremonial temples, agricultural terraces, residential areas, and sacred spaces while learning about the history, architecture, and engineering achievements of the Inca civilization. As you walk through the site, your guide will explain how Machu Picchu functioned as an important ceremonial and administrative center, sharing insights into Inca culture, astronomy, and daily life. Throughout the visit, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to admire the spectacular mountain scenery and capture photographs of this extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Site. Following the guided tour, you’ll have free time to further explore designated areas of Machu Picchu according to your entrance ticket circuit. Travelers who have secured permits for Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain may complete their additional hike at the scheduled entry time (subject to availability and advance reservation). Please read carefully the following information; it will help with your questions about our services and the Salkantay trek.
ARRIVAL TO CUSCO
You will be welcomed upon arrival at the Cusco airport and transferred to your hotel. Please send your flight details at least 14 days prior to your trek or tour. Look for our representative holding a Nomad In Peru sign at the arrivals terminal. This service can be arranged for any date that best suits your plans.
THE BRIEFING
We usually visit your hotel at 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. for your pre-trek briefing. If you prefer another time, email us your preferred schedule and we’ll accommodate it.
WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO BOOK THE ANCASCOCHA TREK TO MACHU PICCHU VIA SALKANTAY 5 DAYS?
STEP ONE:to book your Choquequirao Trek5 days, we need you to fill out our booking form by clicking on BOOK NOW on our homepage . Please be ready with the following information from each participant in your group:

STEP TWO: Pay a non-refundable deposit of US$250 per person (VISA/PayPal available).
WHAT ABOUT THE REMAINING BALANCE?
The customer agrees to make an initial payment equivalent to the indicated percentage of the total agreed amount to secure the service date. The remaining balance must be paid one or two days prior to the start of the service in Cusco. To avoid high credit card fees in Peru, you may choose to pay the balance in cash, either in U.S. dollars or Peruvian soles. There are many ATMs available in Cusco, or you may also complete the payment using the same method as the initial deposit. Note: If you cancel your Cusco Machu Picchu Tour, the deposit is not refundable at all!
IS IT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE THE DATE AFTER PURCHASING THE PERMITS?
Unfortunately, it is not possible. The Peruvian government doesn’t allow us to change once the Choquequirao trek 5 days permits have been bought. Choquequirao trek permits are not transferable nor refundable. The only information that the government allows us to change is passport numbers. If you cancel your Choquequirao tre, the deposit is not refundable at all! Note: If you cancel your Cusco Machu Picchu Tour, the deposit is not refundable at all!
DO I HAVE TO PRESENT MY ORIGINAL PASSPORT ON THE TOUR?
Yes, you have to get your original passport and it is very important and it have to be the same passport number that you sent to us at book time, and also train ticket, other entrances and reservations Will have the same document. The rangers will check when you enter Machu Picchu. The train company will also check your passport before to board you’re the train.
IS THE TREK DIFFICULT? DO I NEED TO BE FIT?
Yes, visiting Choquequirao is known to be quite challenging. Here’s a breakdown of what makes the trek to Choquequirao difficult: Remote Location: Choquequirao is situated in a remote area of the Andes, requiring a multi-day trek to reach. Steep Terrain: The trek involves navigating steep and rugged terrain. Hikers have to descend into the Apurímac River canyon and then climb back up to the site, which involves significant elevation changes. Altitude: The trek reaches altitudes of around 3,050 meters (10,000 feet) at Choquequirao, which can be challenging for those who are not acclimated to high elevations Preparation Tips Acclimatization: Ensure you are well-acclimated to high altitudes before starting the trek to minimize the risk of altitude sickness. Physical Preparation: Prepare physically for the trek with regular training and conditioning to handle the demanding terrain.
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE IF I AM UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE TRAIL?
If you find yourself unable to complete the Choquequirao trek, there are several steps and considerations to keep in mind: Nomad In Peru will assist you to the nearest town for help with transportation. We always carry oxygen on the trek for any respiratory problems. (Travel insurance required). There are no refunds in the unlikely situation that you are unable to finish the trek.
WILDLIFE & FLORE
Expect diverse ecosystems with possible sightings of Andean condors, llamas, and on rare occasions the spectacled bear. Flora includes orchids, bromeliads, and ancient Polylepis trees.
TIPPING
If you’re happy with the services provided, a tip though not compulsory is appreciated. While it may not be customary in your country, it’s of great significance for the people who will take care of you during the tour.
